Mandate
The College shall train staff to the highest possible standards of competence and integrity and to respect human right and dignity as provided for under Article 244 (d) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.

The Unit is established to support the following functions of the Kenya Police Service in accordance with Section 24 of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
• Providing security to his Excellency the President, state houses / lodges.
• Providing security for selected foreign Airlines.
• Providing security to vital installations and strategic points.
• Controlling rioters’ mobs and civil disturbance.
• Carrying out anti-poaching operations and escort duties.
• Containing banditry and cattle rustling.
• Countering terrorism activities and insurgencies.

Establishment and constitution of the Air Wing.
Pursuant to section 10 (h) and (r) of the National Police Service Act 2011, there is established the National Police Service Air Wing Unit consisting of the Director and such number of officers as may be assigned to the Unit.
Command of the Unit
The National Police Service Air Wing shall be headed by a Director who shall be subject to the command and control of the Inspector-General.

The Unit shall provide aerial support to the National Police Service, facilitate Government flights, transportation and protection of Very Important Persons.
The Unit shall also be responsible for:
• Facilitating all forms of security related aerial work by government agencies including observation, patrol, photography, aerial survey, dropping of supplies and security equipment, and search and rescue;
• Providing aerial reconnaissance;
• Providing communication flights;
• Rendering support to other government agencies;
• Facilitating crime detection and prevention;
• Transportation of security personnel;
• Protection and security of Very Important Persons;
• Casualty evacuation;
• Assistance to victims of disasters;
• Crowd control and dispersal;
• Air traffic control;
• Anti-poaching flights; and
• Any other functions as exigency may require.
