This is a measure taken by the police during investigations and judicial process against a person suspected of having committed a crime. It is governed by article 48, 49, 50 and 51 of the Constitution (2010), the National Police Service Act, and the Criminal Procedure Code.

• Identify themselves and show their badges.
• Inform you of the reason for the arrest.
• Inform you your rights.
